Yesterday, I took Trevor to obedience school. We go every Monday evening for 8 weeks. He was the only boy dog there (2 girl dogs). The class was nice and small and the teacher is good. We started on getting our dogs to know when they've done right, what to do to deter them from jumping up (and I tried to today and its working), and some basic concepts. Next week, we're going to learn either how to get them to walk with us on a leash, how to stay or how to lie down, I don't remember which she said. Any of those is fine.
Overall, Trevor was good. He started barking a couple of times and the teacher shot him with a water bottle. It calmed him down quickly. He's much bigger than the other dogs, so they played together better without him. He's so clumsy and has no idea that he's way bigger than them.
I've been working with him today on the things we started. He's catching on pretty quickly. After going yesterday, I am reassured that putting him in school is the best thing.
I'll keep you all informed and then some of you will be able to see for yourselves soon enough the positive influence of obedience training.
Stay tuned...

Okay, this time it's for real!
Everybody, meet Trevor. Trevor, meet everybody. This time, he's really my dog and my dog for keeps.
I already told you all that Dave and I decided to get a dog this summer. Well, I was at church yesterday at a ladies' meeting and I mentioned that I wanted a dog, specifically a lab. I just didn't have the money to pay for one. I can't see paying hundreds of dollars for a dog. One of the ladies over heard me say that and said someone in her family had some lab puppies that they were trying to sell. She thought that they had one left. She called them right then and sure enough, they had one black lab puppy. Now when I say puppy, he's 5 months old on May 1st. He's full Lab and he's beautiful!
I went and got him today and he's great! He's definitely still a puppy. He's about knee-height on me and VERY hyper. Oh yeah, and he's really really hyper. Did I mention that he's hyper?
He's a chewer and a car chaser, so we're gonna have to work on that, but I'm so excited! He has a really long tongue. I played with him for a while this afternoon and he's so funny.
When I first brought him home, I put him on the leash and walked (or should I say ran) him around the house so he'd know where he was. He walks himself! He picks up his leash in his mouth and holds it as you walk/run. It really is funny.
I'll post pictures over the next few days! Stay tuned dog lovers (and Momma)!

Surprise, Surprise, Surprise!
Got our test back today--I made an 84! I was beside myself. I honestly thought I had made a C at best.
For the next two days, I do clinical rotations. Tomorrow, I go to the hospital and shadow the respiratory therapists and then Friday I go watch colonoscopies--what fun.
I'd rather be at the nursing home doing clinical (I can't believe I just said that), but at least there, I'd be practicing my skills instead of just watching stuff all day. Oh well...can't do anything about it.

It came--and went...
I can't believe the weather outside. We were in shorts last week and now it is freezing outside. I brought my plants in and everything. I thought April was supposed to be Spring!
Well, today was a really stressful day. I had a test today that I don't think I did too well on. Readers, please don't ever call me if you have ovarian, testicular or breast cancer--I can't help you. My consolation is 1) I don't plan to be an OB/GYN or L&D nurse, so my exposure to these diseases should be limited and 2) I'm going to pass nursing 2 without an A on that test. I'm in the last three weeks of this semester and it can't end soon enough. I'm SO sick of school. I desparately need a break. The thoughts of getting a dog are helping too.
After the test we had a really horrible class. Maybe it was me, but it dragged on, and on, and on, and on....
I had a support group paper due today as well. I attended a diabetes support group last week and had to write a paper on it. In addition to the paper, we had to turn in 5 articles from nursing journals. After a fiasco at the USM library last night, I ended up at the Jones library and do you know that they still use MICROFISH (I don't know how to spell that word, and no, Mom, I'm not going to look it up--besides, you all know what I'm trying to say). I had to print my articles from there and then get my paper turned in by 3pm.
I came on home after that and cooked supper for a couple of ladies at church. We are working on a program for a Ladies' Meeting at church Saturday. I was so relieved just to sit down in my big yellow chair tonight.
Soon, and very soon, I am going to get some sleep!
I did get a bit of good news today though. I got a scholarship for school. I'm actually on full tuition scholarship, but it doesn't cover fees and books, so when they came around with forms asking us if we had financial need, I took a form. I figured the worst that could happen was I'd get nothing. But if I didn't fill out the form, I'd be assured to get nothing. So long story a bit shorter--I got some scholarship. I don't know how much, but I'll find out Thursday at awards ceremony. That was pretty cool. I figure any free money they'll give me--I'll take.
I have this knot way down deep in my stomach from the stress of last night and today. I'm trying to unwind and let it go, but I keep having anxiety attacks over it. The fact that tomorrow is APRIL 15th, doesn't help any either. Oh well....render unto Caesar what is Caesar's.
Hope you all had a better day than I did!
Stay tuned...

Goodbye Turbo
It's a dark day. Turbo went home today. I found out that he (and his real name is Rusty) belongs to the sister of several of our church members. She lives around the corner from us (and "around the corner" is relative). She came by and got him today and took him home.
Dave says that we can get a dog this summer though. We'll start looking when I'm almost out of school for the summer. That made me feel better.
Goodbye Turbo--you'll be missed.

A new member of the Roshto Family--at least for now!
Meet Turbo. He showed up on my porch yesterday and looked pretty scrawny, so
I fed him. Then he left for a while. But he showed up again today! Hooray!
I'm going to try to keep him. We'll see how that goes.
